Mumbai: The state Cabinet Wednesday approved a proposal to lease land to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) for a Lord Balaji temple in Bandra. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Asian Age had reported in its Monday edition about the government’s plan to lease out the land for just `1. According to the Cabinet decision, the plot will be used to build a small temple dedicated to Lord Tirupati Balaji complete with an information centre, e-darshan counter and a bookstall. It will be provided 648 square metres of government land on lease at just `1 annually in Bandra, suburban Mumbai. Officials revealed that the TTD had demanded the land free-of-cost but as a matter of principle, nominal charges were levied on it. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is a registered institution under the Andhra Pradesh Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions and Endowments Act, 1987.
