Central Railway to set up emergency medical rooms in 5 stations

Mumbai: Central Railway (CR), after receiving a dressing-down from the Bombay high court, will soon set up five emergency medical rooms (EMRs) in suburban stations. These rooms will provide timely medical assistance to rail accident victims as well as the common man at a token rate of Rs 1.

The EMRs, which have been set up at Dadar, Kurla, Wadala, Mulund and Ghatkopar railway stations, in association with a city-based medical firm Magicdil Health For All Pvt Ltd, will begin operations soon.

The Bombay high court in the month of March directed both CR and Western Railways (WR) to set up medical rooms at every station in a phased manner while hearing a petition filed by one Samir Zaveri.

All the EMRs will be manned by paramedics and 3-4 MBBS doctors each, who would conduct a health check up and prescribe medicines to the victims and masses for Rs 1. However, patients will have to bear other medical expenses themselves.
