Mumbai: Debris is being dumped at construction sites of the Andheri east to Dahisar east section of the metro wherever barricades have been removed along the route. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials are seeking the help of the police to stop this menace.

“Construction sites like near the JVLR (Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road) and on the Western Express Highway (WEH) is where debris is being dumped regularly. I think the culprits are doing it in the night time. It has become a menace because the workers have to then clean up everyday,” said a MMRDA official. He added, “We have approached local police stations to patrol the site at night and nab the culprits.”

Meanwhile, authorities are dealing with a similar problem with the 2A line (DN Nagar to Dahisar) wherein incessant dumping is being witnessed on the link road stretch. Last year, during monsoon, water stagnation and illegal parking was spotted on this site.

The MMRDA will soon appoint a contractor to start with the station works of the Metro 7 corridor. “The RCC structure has been constructed. Now, the stations will be built as per the decided designs. It is going to be slimmer than the Andheri metro stations,” added the official.
