Mumbai: The principal sessions judge in Mumbai on Thursday rejected an application filed by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking transfer of Bollywood actress Jiah Khan’s death case to designated CBI court from a regular sessions court.

The application was made on the ground that the CBI had conducted a probe in this matter.

The agency had moved an application before the principal sessions judge P.V. Ganediwala seeking the trial into the death of Ms Khan to be transferred to any of the designated CBI court, because the investigation into the case was transferred to the central agency and now it is the prosecuting agency in the case.

Presently a special women’s court is conducting the trial against actor Sooraj Pancholi for allegedly driving Ms Khan to commit suicide, who was in a relationship with him.

Judge Ganediwala pronounced in the court that the application (filed by CBI) stands rejected.

A detailed order would be provided to the parties in due course and the trial would continue before the same court where it is pending currently.

Sooraj Pancholi, the son of Bollywood couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, has been facing trial in the case under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. He has been seeking an expeditious trial in the case.

The 25-year-old actress’ body was found at her Juhu flat on June 3, 2013 and police had registered a case of suicide in this regard.
