Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested 11 alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from Tanki Pada area in Nalasopara on Tuesday. The officials said that the accused belong to villages in the neighbouring country and had been residing in the ghetto following their arrival in Mumbai. The investigators have contacted the Special Branch of Mumbai police who will contact the embassy and start the process of deportation in due course.

The arrested persons were apprehended after the ATS officials laid a trap based on the information received by the Vikhroli unit of the ATS. During questioning, the accused persons revealed to the ATS that they all hailed from Satkhira and Jashore in Bangladesh.

“When we sought for their identity documents, they produced Aadhar and PAN cards. Upon verification, we found that they were fake ones. We are now trying to track down the agents who helped them procure forged identity documents,” said an ATS officer, requesting anonymity.
