Man held for killing 85-yr-old granddad

The killers were tracked down to Dombivali and apprehended from there.

Mumbai: A day after an 85-year-old man was murdered in the MRA Marg area of south Mumbai, the police managed to crack the case, arresting five persons including his grandson. The officials said that the grandson hatched the plan as he wanted to get his grandfather’s property and hired four persons to execute the crime. The killers were tracked down to Dombivali and apprehended from there.

The arrested accused were identified as Dorji Tensing Lama (29), who hatched the plan to murder his grandfather Ajja Lama (87). He hired Krushna Mahendra Soni alias Utkarsh (19), Arjel Daniel Bhise (22), Fandry Kanojiya alias Jayesh (19) and Anand Dilip Rai (21).

The accused forced their way into the residence of Ajja Lama on Tuesday and stabbed him in the chest. The person was found dead inside his residence at Sant Niwas building on Shaheed Bhagatsingh Marg.

The MRA Marg police began investigating the case and found that Dorji was a frequent visitor at his grandfather’s residence. The officials detained him and questioned him about his grandfather.

“During his interrogation, he revealed that he had hatched the plot as he would get his grandfather's property. He later revealed the names of the killers,” said Abhishek Trimukhe, deputy commissioner of police, zone 1.

Teams of MRA Marg police later tracked down the remaining accused from Dombivali and apprehended them. They were found to be habitual offenders with cases of murder, robbery, house break-ins and assault registered against them in the past.

All the accused were produced before the magistrate court in Ballard Pier and remanded in police custody for further investigation. They have been booked for murder and acts of common intention under the Indian Penal Code.
