Teen tries to rescue minor boy, both drown

A group of teenage boys were sitting on the edge of Marine drive promenade when a high tide at 1.56 pm, took a boy with it.

Mumbai: In a tragic incident, two youngsters who were enjoying the rains at Mumbai’s Marine Drive,  drowned in the sea Saturday afternoon.

The sea waves coupled with the rains swept them away. A 10-year-old boy was swept away by the tide along with a youngster who had jumped into the sea to rescue him.

A group of teenage boys were sitting on the edge of Marine drive promenade when a high  tide at 1.56 pm, took a boy with it. Seeing this, a youngster, Javed Khan, who was present at the spot, immediately jumped into the sea to rescue the boy. Unfortunately, both drowned.

Khan’s body was retrieved from the sea at 7.45 pm and was declared dead on arrival by hospital authorities.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade and Navy have launched a search operation for the body of a 10-year-old boy.

“Our policeman had thrown a rope to rescue Khan. He was about to catch hold of the rope when a big wave en-gulfed the victim and rope slipped from his hand.
