20 take ill after attending wedding

Mumbai: Twenty people, including children, were rushed to the civic-run V.N. Desai hospital for alleged food poisoning. According to medicos of the hospital, food poisoning was suspected following dinner served at a marriage reception at Bandra east Sunday.

At least 11 of the guests, including three children, were admitted to the hospital and the rest were treated at the outpatient department (OPD).

Several people who atte-nded the event complain-ed of diarrhoea and vomiting after consuming food at the walima (wedding reception) scheduled at Samaj Mandir Hall, Bandra.

Dr Rajeshree Jadhav, medical superintendent, V.N. Desai Hospital said, “We have 11 people admitted and 8-10 people were treated at the OPD. We have kept the admitted people under observation.”

The police inspector at Bandra-Kherwadi police station said, “We have sent the food samples for analysing at the Kalina laboratory. We have also called the host of the party Mustaq Rafiq Shaikh for questioning.”
