Mumbai: A nine-year-old police sniffer dog “Heena” helped the Bhoiwada police nab a man who attacked his female friend’s boyfriend with a stone in the early hours of Tuesday, before fleeing the spot.
The incident took place between 3.15am and 3.30am on Tuesday when Santosh Bere (25), a Dadar resident, was found injured by his neighbours.
Police sub-inspector Vinod Ballad of the dog squad said, “After scanning the CCTV footage, the police started the investigation and identified the accused, Manish Roy (22), also. But he was found missing. Our dog Heena then sniffed the stone used by him and led us to him, leading to his arrest.” D. Patil, senior police inspector, Bhoiwada police station, said, “We have arrested the accused. Further investigation is underway.”

But few days ago, she broke up with Roy and went back to Bere. Roy contacted the girl, but her number was busy. He also found Bere’s number busy. The accused then asked Bere who he was speaking to. Bere replied that Roy was nobody to question him. The accused got angry, had a few drinks, and late Tuesday night, attacked the victim with a stone,” said the official.
