Mumbai: Shiv Sena worker Sunil Shitap, the accused in the Ghatkopar Siddhi Sai building collapse, has approached Bombay high court to seek temporary bail to take care of his ailing mother. The court while refusing any immediate relief to him directed investigation officer to check the fact and file report before the court.

On July 25, 2017, four-storey Siddhi Sai building in suburban Ghatkopar collapsed resulting in the death of 17 people and injuring 22 others.

According to police investigation, the building crashed allegedly due to unauthorised work being carried out by Shitap who owned three commercial premises on the ground floor.

On Friday, HC hearing conducted before justice Revati Mohite-Dere where his counsel Amit Desai argued that Shitap’s mother is suffering cardiac disease and recently fell in the bathroom.

He has two sons aged 19 and 14 but no senior member to take care of his mother and to manage business funds. Therefore, his bail should be approved.

Sujay Kantawala, counsel of one of the victim had opposed the bail, he said application is not properly drafted. One side they are showing reason of ailing mother and further they stated that he wants to manage his funds therefore wanted interim bail.
