Mumbai: Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar, who was booked for his remarks against the Election Commission (EC), has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being a blackmailer. He alleged that Mr Modi blackmailed United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her party, saying that if she did not want her son-in-law Robert Vadra to be in jail, they should refrain from joining hands with any other party.

Mr Ambedkar further asked, “Can anyone tell me why the Congress did not have an alliance with any other party across the country? Mr Modi put a condition that if the Congress party wanted Robert Vadra not to be in jail, then it should refrain from forging an alliance with any other party. That is why the Congress did not have an alliance with any party. Mr Modi is a blackmailer. He is blackmailing Sonia Gandhi and everyone else.”

Mr Ambedkar blamed the Congress’ not forging an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi and Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal on Mr Modi’s style of functioning.

Prakash Ambedkar is the grandson of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. He is contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Akola and Solapur constituencies as a candidate of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA). VBA is an alliance of the Mr Ambedkar-led Bharip Bahujan Mahasa-ngh (BBA) and Asad-uddin Owaisi’s AIMIM.

The VBA is contesting all 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Mr Ambedkar was in talks with the Congress-NCP for the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress-NCP combine tried to bring Mr Ambedkar, who has pockets of influence in the state, in its maha aghadi or grand alliance of anti-BJP parties. However, talks in this regard remained inconclusive.
