Mumbai: The Thane crime branch is likely to question representatives of seven telecom companies to find out how the breach or theft of Call Data Records (CDR) of certain individuals occurred as revealed in its probe against four detectives, who were arrested after it was found they had illegally accessed 177 CDRs for sale to clients. The companies will be questioned to verify if there were moles working for them, who colluded with the accused detectives, said a Thane crime branch officer.

One hundred and seventy seven mobile number of seven mobile telecom companies have been seized by the police officials from the residence of a famous private detective Ranjini Pandit, who was arrested on Friday, along with other accused.

The companies that are likely to come under the scanner have been identified as Vodafone, Airtel, Aircel, Idea, Tata, Jio and Uninor.

According to the police, without the knowledge of the telecom companies, no CDR can be obtained. The police is now going to investigate the telecom companies, to ascertain the source. Thane crime branch will conduct investigations into all the related telecom companies and has asked the companies to respond to the inquiries.

A team of Thane crime branch has been dispatched to Delhi to find the alleged main accused, Saurabh Sahu. Sahu was allegedly providing the CDR to Pandit for the past few years. Sahu’s arrest is important to ascertain the source of the leak. The police suspects more high-profile names to come up during the probe.
