Rs 9.71cr worth liquor seized during MCC

Mumbai: Nearly 1,188,000 litre of liquor worth Rs 9.71 crore has been seized from across Maharashtra, even as the model code of conduct (MCC) remains in force.

On Thursday, 77,000 litre of liquor was seized from across the state.

According to additional chief electoral officer, Maharashtra, Dilip Shinde, “Action was taken after complaints were received from different parts of the state regarding bulk sales of liquor.”

Of the 1,188,000 litre of liquor seized, 880,000 litre was seized by the state revenue department since September 21. As part of the action taken by collectors, nearly 300,001 litre of liquor worth Rs 188,000 was seized.

Across the state, liquor worth Rs 9.71 crore was seized.

In Mumbai district, licences of six liquor shops were permanently cancelled as shop owners did not follow the time limit to close the shops.

“All these shop owners kept their shops open after 10 pm,” said Mumbai collector and chief election officer for the city.

“123 litre of country liquor and 6,000,000 litre of English liquor was seized,” he said.

In Mumbai district, liquor worth Rs 484,000 was seized by the state revenue department.

In the Mumbai suburban area, the licences of two hotels were suspended till completion of elections. Meanwhile, the licences of three bars were suspended for the next eight to 15 days.
