Mumbai: Friday will mark the silver jubilee of Mumbai’s first women’s train that ran from Churchgate to Borivali. Celebrating 25 years, the Western Railway (WR) will greet women commuters with roses and chocolates.

The first ladies’ special largely indicated the increasing women workforce in the country.

WR chief public relations officer, Ravindra Bhakar said, “We will be facilitating women commuters at originating and terminating stations. It’s our small way to show how proud we are that they use our services to go to work.”

At present, WR operates 8 Ladies’ Special services in a day, divided equally during the morning and evening peak hours between up and down lines.

Some of these services operate from Virar to Churchgate at 7.35 am and Churchgate to Borivali at 5.39 pm that both deal with peak morning and evening hour
traffic.
