Mumbai: A magistrate court in Andheri has convicted two persons including a 29-year-old woman who works with an event management company, for cheating a newbie actor Karan Sharda of Rs 3.5 lakh on the pretext of getting him a role in the movie No Entry 2. The court has sentenced Gaurav Joshi to two years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000. Archana Sharma was granted nine months of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000. The convicts have already undergone the period of imprisonment, and they were only supposed to pay the fine amount.

However, if they fail to pay the fine, they would be put behind bars for a few more months.

The complainant Mr Sharda, a stage actor, had informed the Oshiwara police that he had been living in South Africa and after the death of his parents. He along with his sister came to Mumbai in 2010. They started living in Lokhandwala in Andheri, where his sister started a beauty parlour.

Mr Sharda’s uncle was settled in London and used to come to Mumbai to meet him and his sister.

In December 2014, when Mr Sharda’s uncle was coming to Mumbai via Delhi, he met accused Archana Sharma on the flight. He told her that Mr Sharda is an actor and was looking for a role in a movie. She assured him that she would help him.

She later made Mr Sharda speak to a person on the phone who introduced himself as producer-actor Mohit Raina and told him that he was making a film called No Entry Mein Entry, a sequel to 2005 hit Salman Khan starrer No Entry. According to the complainant, he was told that the person said that he was looking for a fresh face for his film.

Mr Sharda was then told that he would have to pay Rs 13.50 lakh for an Artist Card and was asked to meet Gaurav Joshi at Juhu.

However, as soon as Mr Sharda paid them the money they started avoiding him. When he stopped receiving calls from them, he enquired with producer Boney Kapoor’s office and came to know that he was making No Entry 2 and not No Entry Mein Entry. Following this, Mr Sharda filed a complaint with the police and duo were arrested.
