Mumbai: The 18-year-old white tiger of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Bajirao, died on Friday morning. According to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, he was suffering from arthritis and chronic ankylosis because of which his situation had worsened since last month.

The tiger couple, Renuka and Siddhartha gave birth to Bajirao earlier in the year 2001. Since then Bajirao had become one of the main attractions of SGNP.

The veterinarian of SGNP has been treating the male white tiger and proper medications were provided to him for his chronic health problems.

However, Bajirao died this morning, after which its post-mortem was conducted.

According to the post-mortem report, vital organs including the tiger’s heart, kidney and liver had failed. Later in the day, the cremation of Bajirao was carried out in the SGNP premises. SGNP officials have ruled out the possibility of preserving the skin of the white tiger and said that taxidermy on Bajirao will not be performed.

Earlier in 2014, Bajirao’s father Siddhartha died after succumbing to old age. The reason cited by veterinarian for Siddhartha’s demise was natural death.
