Mumbai: Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have finally joined hands for the upcoming Council polls. The NCP has kept for itself the seats in Beed- Latur-Osmanabad while the Congress will contest in Hingoli- Parbhani seat. On Thursday, the Congress declared Indrakumar Saraf for Wardha-Gadchiroli-Chandrapur, Anil Maghvagdiya for Amaravati and Suresh Deshmukh for Suresh DeshmukhSuresh Deshmukh.

After having a tussle over seat sharing for the Council polls and threatening each other, the Congress and the NCP have finally agreed upon a few terms.

Earlier, both the parties were trying to field candidates on all seats indicating to go alone for the Council polls. But it is difficult for both to get elected members from the local bodies independently and hence they have decided to mend ways.

“A meeting in this regard was held on Wednesday night by the Congress and NCP top leaders. They came to an amicable solution and decided to contest together.

Earlier, Latur was with the Congress and Dilip Deshmukh, the brother of late Congress leader Vilasrao Deshmukh, was sitting MLC from there. It was now given to NCP which will field Ramesh Karad from the seat. In lieu of this, Congress has taken Parbhani seat from the NCP,” a Congress leader said.

The Election Commission of India had declared the elections for the seats on May 21. Elections will be held in Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Nashik, Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli, Parbhani-Hingoli-Amravati, Osmanabad and Beed-Latur constituencies where members of Councils and Zilla Parishads will exercise their franchise.

The terms of Sunil Tatkare and Jayant Jadhav from the NCP, Abdullah Khan Latif Khan Durani and Dilip Deshmukh from the Congress and Mitesh Bhangadia and Pravin Pote from the BJP have expired.
