Mumbai: A road in Chandivali area, Powai caved-in leaving around 50 meters long gap at the site. The incident happened at a construction site, where a developer is building a residential project. No one was injured in the incident, which took place on Monday night around 10:30 pm. However, the road was blocked in the morning leading to traffic congestion.

“At 10.30 pm on Monday, we heard a huge sound outside and saw that the road has caved-in while it was raining heavily. Lot of water had been accumulated by the morning. A JCB that was present at the construction site got submerged in the water,”  said 45-year-old Arjun Thakur, a resident of Chandivali. Residents claimed that a two-floor basement has been submerged due to the caving in of the road.

“Since it happened during late night hours, nobody got trapped or injured in it. Had it been morning hours, vehicles on the roads would have been washed away,” said 59-year-old Dilip Jadhav.

Locals stated that in the year 2017, another part of the same road had caved-in. The project is being built by diverting a drainage at the site resulting in heavy water flow from the hills and clogging the area.
