First female pvt detective nabbed in CDR scam

Mumbai: The Thane crime branch officers on Friday arrested detective Rajani Pandit, reckoned to be the first Indian female private investigator in India or at least in Maharashtra, as part of its probe into the Call Details Record (CDR) case, in which it has already arrested four detectives accused of acquiring telephonic conversations’ record illegally for sale to clients for a price.

Pandit was arrested after it was found that she had allegedly bought seven CDRs for Rs 10,000 each from the four arrested  detectives.

Thane’s crime DCP, Abhishek Trimukhe said. “ We have arrested her from her  Dadar residence to investigate why she needed other detectives’ help and to know the reason for which she has taken CDR. This is an illegal activity. She will be produced in the court tomorrow.”

Pandit has been the subject of a documentary, written two books, received numerous awards, and is considered one of the most famous detectives in India. She has mentioned on her official website that she has solved 75000 at National and International Level.

The police has called all customers of the detectives including couples, persons acting as links between the insurance companies and accused detectives to record their statement. Police are also checking bank details of the accused.
