Shiv Sena criticises Fadnavis for lauding North Indians

The Sena has termed the CM's remarks as an insult of the 105 martyrs who laid their lives for the United Maharashtra movement.

Mumbai: A day after MNS criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for lauding north Indians, Shiv Sena slammed him on Friday. The Sena has termed the CM’s remarks as an insult of the 105 martyrs who laid their lives for the United Maharashtra movement.

“The CM saying that Mumbai’s development is due to North Indians is an insult to the 105 martyrs that laid their life for United Maharashtra movement. Marathi people have given their blood and sweat for Maharashtra. Is the CM not aware of who is looting the city?” asked, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut.

Recalling mill workers who were once the dominating community in Mumbai, Raut said their mill lands were given to build towers. “The mill lands were given to construct towers that affected the Marathi community. The mill workers were thrown out of Mumbai. It is very sad if the government is promoting these people who uprooted Marathi population. With the current atmosphere, I fear that Mumbai might not remain with Maharashtra,” Raut said.

Fadnavis said that the country’s financial capital has always given shelter to many and those who live here have added to the city’s prestige. “I believe that among the many things which make Mumbai great is the people who have come from various states and settled here. They also make Mumbai great. Today, when we speak of Mumbai and Maharashtra, we immediately see the North Indian community. This city has always given shelter to many and those who have gotten shelter here have always added to the city’s prestige. Today, we can say that the North Indian community which has settled in Mumbai, has always worked towards increasing the prestige of the city,” the CM said.

MNS leader Nitin Sardesai replied to the CM’s comment and said that the latter was acting like Congress leaders to get votes from North Indians. “Mumbai was glorious from the beginning and the North Indians did not contribute anything towards its development. He is not concerned about the original Mumbaikar, farmers and people of Maharashtra,” Sardesai had said.
