Mumbai: Some unidentified miscreants broke into a mobile phone showroom in Mira Road during the early hours of Sunday and decamped with goods worth Rs 1.58 lakh.  The break-in was reported from Jai Ambe Telecom- a multi brand mobile outlet located in the Shanti Park area of Mira Road.

The thieves gained entry into the showroom by breaking open the shutters and decamped with 24 high-end handsets. The collective price tag of the stolen property is said to be more than Rs 1.58 lakh, including Rs 10,000 cash. The theft came to light when the staffers of the showroom turned up for work early on Sunday morning.

It was committed between 11 pm and 7.15 am, police said. Shop owner, Rahul Gupta, has registered a complaint with the Mira Road police, who are trying to procure the footage captured by the CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the crime spot.

Assistant police inspector Prakash Pawar is investigating the case, which has been registered under section 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).  While shopkeepers in the locality claimed that night patrolling was not up to the mark, the shop owner did not have adequate security measures, despite stocking such a huge quantity of electronic gadgets in the virtually unguarded establishment sans CCTV cameras.
