Mumbai: The state government informed the Bombay high court on Friday that it would file a chargesheet within 20 days against the six accused in the case related to the alleged custodial death of Byculla women's prison inmate Manju Shetye on June 23.

A division bench comprising of Justice Bhusan Gavai and Justice M. S. Karnik was hearing the PIL filed by Pune resident Pradeep Bhalekar, who sought an independent agency probe in the death of Shetye. On June 23, jail authorities had registered a case of accidental death. However, Indrani Mukerjea had registered an FIR on June 24 alleging that Shetye died due to assault by the jail personnel, after which the six female jail personnel were arrested.

On Friday, state lawyer Rajeev Patil said the investigation is being carried out properly and submitted a report to the court in a sealed envelope.
