Police to quiz teen’s classmates on suicide today

The school was informed about her death on Friday but since it was closed for the weekend, police will question her teachers and friends on Monday.

MUMBAI: The Samata Nagar police will quiz the classmates of 14-year-old Harshika Mayawanshi, who jumped to her death from the eighth floor of a building adjacent to her house on Thursday evening. The case investigators are hoping that her friends and teachers may be able to shed some light on why she committed suicide and whether it was linked to any problems she may have been undergoing at school. The school was informed about her death on Friday but since it was closed for the weekend, police will question her teachers and friends on Monday.

Police said that they have not yet recovered any suicide note, They hope that her friends from the building or school can give provide some information that could help the probe into her death. Meanwhile, Harshika’s parents have not yet given their statement to the police as they are still in shock.  

Senior Police Inspector, Raju Kasbe from Samata Nagar police station said, “The primary probe revealed that no suicide note was written by the deceased teenager, but we are not ruling out the possibility as of now. The revelation will be made once all concerned persons are questioned about what could have led her to commit suicide.”

Harshika, a class nine student, lived on the fifth floor of Gardenia Coop-erative Housing Society in Kandivali’s Thakur village and allegedly committed suicide from the adjacent building, Orch-id. A few neighbours and housekeeping staff tried to talk her out of it but were unsuccessful.
