Voter registration drive to be held

Mumbai: After getting a good response from citizens who had failed to register themselves as voters in a special workshop on February 23 and 24, the State Electoral Office (SEO) of the Election Commission of India has planned to conduct a special drive on March 2 and 3. More than 250,000 voters registered in the last special camp. The SEO has also appealed to the youth (people in the age group of 18-21 years) to register themselves as voters because people in this age group have enrolled themselves less than their actual number. The commission is also roping in colleges.

This will be the second opportunity for citizens who have failed to enroll themselves as voters to do so at a special workshop to be held Saturday and Sunday. Election officials will be present with forms to add or delete names from the voter list.

Additional chief electoral officer Dilip Shinde said that the election officials would be present at all the polling booths across the districts of the state of Maharashtra on March 2 and 3.

The booth level officer (BLO) would accept application forms from the citizens. He also informed that 102,262 citizens had enrolled on February 23 and 150,984 citizens had enrolled themselves as voters on February 24.

Mr Shinde said that they were also identifying the ‘Person with Disability’ (PWD) voters in order to ensure proper arrangement for ferrying them on the polling day.
