Mumbai: A teenage girl from Palghar district in Maharashtra is battling for her life in Mumbai’s JJ Hospital after being allegedly set on fire by her own father. According to the Palghar police, her 40-year-old father had allegedly set her on fire at their house. The police have booked the accused Mohamad Mansuri.

According to the police, the accused was apparently angry with his daughter for being continuously into her mobile phone. As per the information by Palghar police, the father and daughter got into heated argument for being hooked on her mobile phone, following which the accused doused her in kerosene and put her on fire.

“The 16-year-old victim is currently undergoing treatment at JJ Hospital. The girl was brought to the hospital by her neighbours as other family members were not present at the time of the incident,” a police official said.

As per the JJ Hospital, the victim has suffered 70 per cent burn injuries from the incident. Mansuri has been arrested and booked for attempt to murder under section 307 of the IPC. The victim was brought to the hospital around 5:20 am on Tuesday.

“The victim has suffered injuries more than 60 per cent on both upper and lower limb. It is 3rd degree burn injuries, which is fire exposure from domestic gas. Her vitals are stable, however she is under observation right now,” said Dr Sanjay Surse, JJ superintendent.
