Mumbai: Actress Rakhi Sawant on Wednesday filed a defamation suit against actress Tanushree Dutta in the Dindoshi court for allegedly damaging her reputation by making derogatory statement in media.

Ms Sawant demanded that her passport should be seized so that she won’t be able to travel to America. Defamation suit was filed after Ms Dutta made an alleged defamatory statement against Ms Sawant when she took Nana Patekar’s side in the ongoing #MeToo drive.

In her suit, filed at a civil court in suburban Malad, Dindoshi, Ms Sawant mentioned that she has been part of Bollywood since past two decades and has made a ‘promising career and name for herself’

She alleged that, “Tanushree Dutta had an uncharacteristic, unstable and disappointing career in the film industry, spanning for only five years. After which she was out of the limelight.”

“Upon her return to limelight, Tanushree made certain unwholesome and deeply derogative statements against Ms Sawant due to which, she has incurred huge financial losses and has suffered a dent on her reputation, which had taken years to build,” the suit said.

Ms Sawant also took objection to a press release issued by Ms Dutta, where words like ‘uncouth’, ‘uneducated’ ‘characterless’ and ‘classless’ were used for Ms Sawant.

She prayed that court orders Ms Dutta to pay `25 paise by way of damages for making such remarks and for ‘maligning her reputation’.

She also demanded an unconditional apology in print, television and social media.
