Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL), which operates Versova-Ghatkopar Metro line one on Monday, announced that the corridor has achieved the record of carrying the 400 million passengers within four years of its operations. Meanwhile, according to MMOPL, 48 per cent of passengers have increased in the Andheri and Western Express Highway route.

The Versova-Ghatkopar line that was executed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was made operational in 2014. MMOPL announced that on Monday the line completed its 1,423rd day. “We have redefined MRTS commuter experience in the country. As a transport utility, we have sought to delight our commuters with value added services. From attractive deals from our partner merchants for last mile connectivity from all our stations and our bouquet of various offerings has ensured commuters trust and helped us continuously increase the ridership,” said a spokesperson from MMOPL. The Reliance infrastructure-led MMOPL was appointed as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) by MMRDA to operate the metro line.

According to the figures shared by the body, there are daily 378 to 382 daily trips on weekdays and the metro has covered more than 1.25 lakh trips in 2017-18.  “The year 2017-18 witnessed a growth of 13% in ridership for the entire VAG (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) corridor and when compared to same period last year ridership,” reads the statement sent by MMOPL. The corridor has cut the travel time from 90 minutes to 21 minutes, claim the officials. However, the main aim was to improve connectivity between the western and eastern suburbs.

The 11km long elevated corridor with 12 stations, achieved its first 100 million passengers within 398 days after commencement of operations in 2014, reveals the statement.
