Mumbai: A week after the Antop Hill police arrested six parents and two agents for allegedly submitting fake birth certificates at Sion’s trust-run CBM school to acquire admissions under the RTE Act, the police at noon on Friday arrested three more persons.

The newly-arrested trio includes two BMC employees and one agent, who were part of the “fake authenticated certificates” issued by BMC. The police is questioning the trio and getting details of other players in the scam.

According to the police sources attached to Antop Hill police station, the two agents arrested earlier, Kamaruddin Shaikh (37) and Yunus Baza (42), revealed while questioning that they were able to pull off this scam with the help of another private agent, Prakash Kadam (40).

The police then arrested Kadam at noon on Friday, followed by the arrests of two civic body employees - Ramdas Jadhav (35), a peon in the BMC office and Shailesh Jankar (37), medical staff of the civic-run KEM hospital. Jadhav and Jankar were the inside sources who got authentication done without anybody noticing anything fishy.

A police source added that Jadhav used to issue fake birth certificates while Jankar was tasked with getting the doctor’s stamp and signature, which was acquired after using the doctor’s login identity and password to gain access. The police is also questioning the trio arrested on Friday to nab other persons involved in the scam.
