Eight-year-old dies of dengue in Baranagar

Kolkata: Dengue continues to claim lives as a girl died to the disease in Baranagar on the northern outskirts of the city on Sunday amidst trading of charges between the ruling and opposition parties in the state. 

The victim, Bipasha Sau (8), was a resident of ward no. 18 of Baranagar municipality at Doctor bagan. The class 3 student was suffering from fever for the last seven days. 

Her mother Pinky Sau said, “My daughter had fever. A local doctor prescribed her a blood test when we took her to him for treatment. The blood test report revealed symptoms of dengue. We rushed our daughter to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital where she died. But there was no mention of dengue as the cause of her death in her death certificate.” 

The girl’s death has created tension in the area. The civic body however claimed that dengue was not the cause of her death. According to it, vector control measures have been underway in the wards.
