Dilip: Do not force us to disobey the law

Kolkata: State BJP president Dilip Ghosh has threatened in Hooghly to take “revenge” if the party’s protests and resistance against the ruling Trinamul Congress doesn’t work. His comments came after a rally called by the BJP at Gurap in the district was denied permission by the police on Sunday.

“Do not force us to disobey the law. We will organise our rally there and we will apply for permission again. We will bring change in Bengal abiding the rules. Syama Prasad Mookerjea spoke about protesting the injustice and putting up resistance and if required, take revenge,” he said outside the office of Hooghly Rural superintendent of police which was gheraoed by the BJP workers at Kamarkundu to protest the denial of permission. Mr Ghosh mentioned, “Till date we have been restricted ourselves upto protests and resistance only. If required we will take revenge also.”

The BJP had called the rally at a railway ground in Gurap. On Saturday night its leaders however found that the police stopped the preparations. Mr Ghosh alleged, “The Trinamul and police are obstructing wherever the BJP organises its programme. We took the permission from the railways to hold the event at the railway ground. But the police said that they would not allow it. On Saturday night a statue of our slain worker was broken by the miscreants after it was unveiled in the day. They are trying to stop the BJP by not allowing its rallies. That is why the BJP is expanding.”

Rejecting his charges Trinamul MLA of Dhaniakhali Asima Patra claimed, “The BJP has lagged behind due to lack of organisation. Let the BJP show where we indulged in violence. It is their drama. The venue was the railway ground. The railways know why they denied the permission. We have no role in it.”
