Kolkata: The West Bengal BJP women’s wing took out a rally in the city on Saturday, protesting against the outbreak of dengue in the state and accused the state government of “not being” serious in tackling the crisis.

The toll in the vector borne disease in the state since January this year is 36, while more than 20,000 people have tested positive for the vector-borne disease, according to a senior health department official.

The rally at south Kolkata’s Hazra More, near chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence, was led by the BJP’s state mahila morcha president Locket Chatterjee, who demanded that the state government should take steps on an emergency basis to deal with the crisis.

“The state government has completely failed to tackle the outbreak of dengue in the state. The state government is trying to hush up the dengue cases. My question is why is the state, instead of providing better treatment facilities trying to hush up the matter,” she said.

She said that the state government and the health department should ensure proper treatment and diagnosis of dengue patients.

The West Bengal BJP had, earlier this week, staged a protest rally at Salt Lake area of North 24 Parganas district against the alleged failure of the state overnment to tackle the outbreak of the vector-borne disease in the state and demanded immediate resignation of Ms Banerjee from the post of state health minister.
