Kolkata: The daughter and son in-law of an aged woman, Shipra Bhattacharya, who was found murdered at her residence in Parnashree on Saturday morning, were arrested by the police.

Kaveri Bhattacharya (36) and her husband Arindam, the two accused, were booked on murder charge under section 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, said DC of police Meeraj Khalid. On Sunday the couple was remanded by the court in police custody for three days. The police learnt that since Shipra's husband Biman Bhattacharya passed away nearly a year ago, her daughter and son-in-law were after the property.

The couple had initially claimed to the police of having no knowledge about the murder before floating the theory of suicide by Bhattacharya when the police shad howed a suicide note which was actually prepared by the couple by tearing off a page from a writing pad.

The couple however broke down later during marathon interrogation and confessed of killing Bhattacharya after locking the three doors of the house so that no neighbour would come to know about it.
