Class 11 student jumps in front of local, ends life

Kolkata: A higher secondary (HS) examinee aparently committed suicide in front of a speeding train while a Class 11 student jumped to death from an upscale high rise housing apartment with a span of 24 hours. 

The HS candidate, Anirban Nandi, was a commerce student of Jyotinagar High School in Baranagar. 

Anirban left home at Gopal Lal Thakur Road in Baranagaron on Monday evening. 

He later shared his photo beside the railway tracks at around 7.45 pm on his Facebook account with a status: ‘Bye’. Anirban also left his friends’ group in WhatsApp. 

His friend: Shouvik Dutta recalled that when he met Anirban at around 9.30 pm on the road, he told him that he was going buy bread for dinner. 

However, Anirban was found dead near the railway tracks of the Bally station at night. 

The body was lying around 200 metres away from the tracks. Preliminary investigations revealed that at around 11.05 pm Anirban was knocked down by a Howrah-bound Burdwan Local train after it left platform no 1 of the station. 

Meanwhile Rashmit Kapooria (18), a Class 11  student of Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan in Salt Lake, jumped to death from 12th floor of HIG-2 at Green Wood Sonata in New Town at around 1.15 pm on Tuesday.

He was a resident of flat no: 12L at the 12th floor. Rashmit had failed in the annual examination. 

He was rushed to Charnock Hospital from where he was shifted to R G Kar Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead, the police said.
