Kolkata: Heavyweight Trinamul Congress minister and Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee has lodged an FIR against his estranged wife Ratna Chatterjee and Ms Chatterjee’s friend Jhuma Saha, accusing them of trespassing and criminal intimidation.

Mr Chatterjee, who is also the fire minister, environment minister and housing minister lodged the complaint at the Parnashree police station on February 24.

In his complaint he alleged that he was facing trouble in getting back his belongings from his residence in Behala. The relation between him and his wife soured since November last year when the ED started probing the Narada sting operation case. The central agency summoned and questionned the Kolkata Mayor apart from recording his statement.

When the ED sought income details from him, he claimed that his income details were maintained by his wife, sources revealed. Later the ED summonned Ms Chatterjee and questionned her. She, however, claimed to the ED of not knowing anything.

Later, Mr Chatterjee filed the separation case against her. The case has been underway at the Alipore court.

After filing his case, Mr Chatterjee left his Behala residence and moved to a flat in Gariahat. But his important documents and garments have been lying in his Behala residence. According to him, although he sent his representatives to his previous residence to get his belongings back, he is yet to get anything.

Mr Chatterjee lodged the first complaint with the police on February 19 alleging that Ms Saha trespassed into his Behala residence at the behest of Ms Chatterjee. When one of the mayor’s assistant protested, he was threatened even, Mr Chatterjee claimed adding that the police did not take any step. He also questionned the police inaction into Ms Saha’s entry to his residence even after his first complaint.

Asked about his FIR against his wife, Mr Chatterjee told the media on Tuesday in the Assembly, “I pray to God that even my enemy does not face the circumstances I have been living.”

Ms Chatterjee, who has been seen in Trinamul rallies on multiple occasions, however, claimed, “I had been silent for a long time on the instruction from the party. Now I will break my silence very soon and that too on the instruction of the party.”
