TMC, BJP, CPM trade charges against each other on Rakhi

Kolkata: A political slugfest marked Rakhibandhan festival, on Sunday, with the Trinamul Congress, the CPI(M) and BJP trading charges against each other during their celebration. Attacking the CPIM) and BJP at a party event: Sanskriti Dibas minister of state for health Chandrima Bhattacharya alleged, “The Trinamul does not focus on Rakhibandhan to establish its party eyeing votebank.”

She added, “It has been celebrating the festival for a long time. They are only trying to pull the people by force to celebrate the occasion. The people will not accept it.” Lashing out at the BJP over the National Register of Citizens issue CPI(M) MLA Sujan Chakraborty claimed, “We have taken Rakhibandhan programme at the political level to uphold communal harmony and integrity.”

He reasoned, “When BJP chief Amit Shah is showing their audacity using NRC to throw out nearly a crore people then all have to be integrated to put up a resistance. Those who are running the government in country are trying to destroy harmony and integrity. When Rakhi was introduced first by great poet Rabindra Nath Tagore, the cause of saving the country topped all. Now it is also important to protect to country.”

On the celebration by the Trinamul and CPI(M) state BJP president Dilip Ghosh asked, “Anyone can celebrate it under any name. It is a popular festival. But where is the integrity of the CPI(M) now? The CPI(M) has ceased to exist. So what is the importance of their integrity? The occasion would hold no importance if someone celebrates it with an ulterior motive in mind.”

The BJP MLA argued, “Integrity and harmony can not be established by showing off symbolically by wearing caps and maintaining beard and tail. The environment should be such so that all can feel it inside. There is must be an integrity in personal behaviour. Showing off harmony has no meaning. They have been isolated from the society in the present scenerio.”

BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha claimed, “If the Left celebrated this festival then it would be an U-turn in history. We have not found it earlier. The Left had been boycotting all social occasions including Rakhi. They do not understand anything except Lenin and Stalin. If they celebrated the occasion then it would mean they have learnt a lesson.”

He alleged, “But the Trinamul is celebrating the festival to leave a mark before losing power. Rakhi signifies protection of the brother. But here one brother kills another. The Trinamul is responsible for it.”

“The first killing even over forming a panchayat board was done by them. So they are the killers. While they are taking lives, we are trying to protect the sons. Our message is we will bring an end to the dark days and protect all families,” he added.
