Odisha: Five held for trying to murder businessman

Puri (Odisha): Five persons were arrested on Saturday from a hotel in Odisha’s Puri district in connection with an attempt to murder a businessman in Kolkata.

Sources said that Kolkata police, with the help of their local counterparts, nabbed the five from a hotel located on Marine Drive road near Baliapanda in the pilgrim city. The accused were identified as Faizul Haque Sagar (31), Mirajul Haque Sagar (29), Mohammed Arman (25), Sheikh Shahenshah (29) and Azad Alam (19).

They had allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate a prominent Kolkata-based businessman Parvez Ahmed. On August 22, the men shot at Pervez in Park Circus area on Monday night. However, he, along with another person escaped with bullet injuries, police sources said.

While Parvez suffered three bullet injuries, his friend Haidar Ahmed got bullet shots on his body. The duo was rushed to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital from where they were later shifted to a private hospital in Alipore. The culprits had been absconding.
