Duo arrested for murdering 82-year old man in Alipore fla

Kolkata: Two persons were arrested by the police from Kulpi in South 24 Parganas in the murder of an 82-year-old in New Alipore three weeks ago. A part of the stolen valuables was recovered from them. 

The arrested are Zakir Mollah and Suraj Mollah. The police came to know about the duo’s role in the murder after examining CCTV footage at multiple crossings on the road near the house of the victim, Moloy Mukherjee, at O Block. The man was found murdered in a pool of blood on the bed early on August 5. 

Zakir and Suraj had entered his residence by scaling the boundary wall for theft but Mukherjee woke up to the sounds of their movement, according to preliminary investigations. 

To avoid getting caught, the duo strangulated him to death before fleeing with a suitcase, sources revealed. During escape, they crossed the boundary wall again at around 3 am after their operation, which lasted over three hours. The two accused earlier lived at a house in Behala. 

Zakir has a case of theft against him at Charu Market police station. It turned out he had done a recee at Mukherjees’ house earlier. Along with Suraj, Zakir will be produced at the court on Sunday.
