Kolkata: Triggering a fresh controversy, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Friday compared the Trinamul Congress with snakes and dogs. In a very abusive language, Mr Ghosh said “When scared, both Trinamul Congress and dogs bite.”

The BJP leader claimed that the ruling party has developed such a fear of the BJP that it is not willing to given the BJP permission to hold a rally at the Brigade Parade ground. State panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee countered him arguing that the Trinamul does not indulge in attacks.

Speaking at a rally in Midnapore on Friday, Mr Ghosh compared the Trinamul Congress to dogs, saying both bite when scared. “BJP is not given permission for rallies in Bengal. What is the fear behind it? Snakes bite when scared, dogs also bite when scared. So is the nature of Trinamul Congress. They bite when scared.”

Mr Ghosh added, “Elections will be held in 2019. Didi will realise how much power the BJP have. We will also see for how many days the government will exist. Under no circumstances the permission will be given at the Brigade.”

The Kharagpur MLA told the rally, “I do not know why there is so much fear. You know very well that the snakes bite if they are panicked. Isn’t it? Even the dogs bite if panicked. And the Trinamul also bite if it is panicked. It fears the BJP.” Retaliating to his comments Mr Mukherjee said, “Where did we attack them? We may have used bad words. But we never attack anyone.”

In response to this comment, state panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee said, “We hardly bother about what he says. We never attack them but point out BJP’s loopholes.”

This is not the first time that Mr Ghosh has attacked Trinamul Congress and sparked controversy.

Earlier this week, in another rally, Mr Ghosh said that his party members will use hands to attack Trinamul Congress and not verbally attack them.
