Shubhrangshu Roy will not follow in father’s footsteps

Kolkata: On a day Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Roy quit the Trinamul Congress, his son Shubhrangshu Roy, who is also a Trinamul Congress MLA of Bijpur in North 24 Parganas, however made it clear that he would not follow his father’s footsteps.

Asked about his plan Mr Shubhrangshu said, “I am very much in the party. I will remain with the party. The question of any alternative plan does not arise.”

According to sources, the Trinamul Congress MP had left it to his son to decide his fate even though the Trinamul MLA did not want his father to leave the party. Sources claimed that a senior Trinamul Congress leader called the young MLA to his office in Bhowanipore in South Kolkata and gave him some advice against quitting the party like his father.

Besides the relation between Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and Mr Shubhrangshu Roy looks better than what it was between her and the

Rajya Sabha MP, sources indicated adding that the Trinamul Congress MLA had later decided to stay with the party after considering all angles.
