Congress MLA Abu Taher Khan who is the Nowda MLA, was recently sacked from the district Congress president’s post in Murshidabad.
Kolkata: A crucial meeting between state transport minister Shubhendu Adhikary and Congress MLA Abu Taher Khan has fuelled further speculation about the possible defection of another Opposition legislator from Murshidabad to the ruling party. The meeting took place between them in Kolkata on Sunday.
Sources claimed that Mr Khan showed his eagerness to switch to the Trinamul during the meeting as a photo, in which he is seen standing in between Kandi MLA Apurba Sarkar and the heavyweight Trinamul MLA whose right hand is on Mr Khan’s shoulder, went viral on Monday.
With chief minister Mamata Banerjee on the wall in the backfrop, all of them are seen smiling. Mr Khan may join the party on July 2 and is likely to get a crucial post in the organisation also, sources indicated. Mr Sarkar who was in the Congress earlier switched to the Trinamul recently.
Mr Khan, who is the Nowda MLA, was recently sacked from the district Congress president’s post in Murshidabad known to be a stronghold of state party president and Berhmapore MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhury.
He was replaced by Congress leader Abu Hena by Mr Choudhury. In protest Mr Khan got in touch with Mr Adhikary who has been entrusted by the Trinamul supremo to expand the party’s base in Murshidabad.
