Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and renowned Costa Rican author Roxana Pinto Lopez inaugurated the 41st International Kolkata Book Fair at the Milan Mela Grounds on Wednesday.

Though the chief minister did not use the stage of the book fair to register her veto against the Narendra Modi government for demonetisation , but she released a full fledged book titled Note Katha that she has penned down during the inaugural programme.

The  book, talks about the economic crisis that the country has plunged into post demonetisation.  She has explained with the help of statistics and by taking views of economists how a robust economy has suffered a setback  due to the move.

The CM has also shared how her party Trinamul Congress   is challenging the Centre on the issue of the note-ban and the resultant  ‘vendetta politics’ that she and her party has been subjected to because of this.

Apart from this book, five others were released by her , bringing her total tally to 69. “Mamata Banerjee is our bestselling author and tops our chart throughout the year,” said Sudhangshu Dey,  the President of the Guild. Another notable book released  today was Singur Joyee ( Victor of Singur) that focuses  on the Singur land agitation, an event that earned her a place in history and contributed largely in  ending the Left parties’ sway over Bengal in the 2011 assembly elections.
