Kolkata: A few minutes after the Central Cabinet announced that it will not further allow any exchange of old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 in banks and post offices, chief minister Mamata Banerjee, through a series of tweets, termed it hasty, ill-conceived decision. She also appealed to the Centre to extend the date. “Only these interim small changes will not work. Nothing for the agricultural, co-operative, unorganised sector. Nothing for the states, only Central sector. Extend the use of Rs 500 rupee notes,” Ms Banerjee twetted.

Ms Banerjee, who returned to the city from New Delhi, further tweeted, “Only these interim small changes will not work. They are not the solution. Vast sections of society have been totally left out because of your dangerous policy.” The Centre had announced demonetisation of high-value currency notes with an aim to curb black money and terror fundings.
