Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday slapped notices on the residences and offices of several leaders of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), including chief Bimal Gurung, directing them to appear before the city sessions court on Monday.

The Calcutta High court on Wednesday asked the 23 accused in the 2010 murder of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang to remain present in the city sessions court as the latter takes up the framing of charges. They include top 23 GJM leaders, including Mr Gurung, who has been underground for some days along with some other leaders who are apprehending arrest in Kolkata. Several of them have fresh cases against them since violence erupted in the Hills from June 8. “We are investigating recent cases of arson and riots and have a strong body of evidence. The law will take its own course. We are definitely looking at some tough action,” a senior CID official said.

In May 2015, the CBI submitted a charge-sheet naming 54 persons, including Bimal Gurung, Asha Gurung and Roshan Giri. Of them, 22, including Mr Gurung had moved anticipatory bail pleas in Calcutta HC.
