No student union meddling in college admission process: Partha Chatterjee

Kolkata: West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee on Saturday said the state government will not allow student unions to meddle into the admission process to under graduate streams in colleges.

“We will not tolerate any irregularities in admission. There should not be any role of the student unions in the whole admission process,” Mr Chatterjee told reporters on the sidelines of a programme.

He said any laxity on the part of college principals to prevent entry of unions into the admission process and failure to ensure transparency in the whole procedure “will be strictly dealt with”.

Mr Chatterjee was asked to comment on reports that two groups of students were involved in a clash in front of Dinabandhu

Andrews College on Friday, the first day of admission.The clashes broke out after both the groups tried to intervene in the admission procedure by approaching the applicants, police said.

The minister said appropriate action had been taken with regard to the incident.
