Man killed at de-addiction centre in Murshidabad

Berhampore: A youth was allegedly lynched at a deaddiction centre at Berhampore in Murshidabad on Tuesday. Post-mortem of the deceased, Suman Ghatak (25), was also conducted in the absence of his family members.

His wife and mother lodged an FIR against the de-addiction centre’s owner and director Rohit Biswas. Suman, a Toto driver at Radharghat, was admitted at Astha, the dead diction centre on Sunday at Berhampore Uttar para more. But on Tuesday he fell ill and he died on the way to Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital.

Suman’s wife Shatarupa and his mother Tumpa alleged that when they were returning from Puri by train, they were informed about his death but the post-mortem was completed hurriedly. They noticed several injury marks on the body when it was being handed over to them.

According to them, Suman was severely beaten up at the de-addiction centre from where he was being rushed to a hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

Suman’s mother and wife lodged an FIR at the Berhampore police station.

Inspector-in-charge of the Berhampore police station Sanat Das said that a murder case  has been initiated. De-addiction centre’s owner Biswas and his two sides are absconding.
