West Bengal: Man hacks ex-wife’s account

Kolkata: An engineer from Howrah was arrested by the police in a case of cyber fraud in which he had allegedly hacked the income tax account of his ex-wife to 
avoid the payment of alimony. 

Nirmalya Bhattarcharya (36), the accused, is a resident of Shibpur. He was caught from KNC Road in Barasat of North 24 Parganas on Friday. Nirmalya’s ex-wife had lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police station of the Bidhannagar city police in May last year. 

A case under section 66 of the Information Technology Act and section 406 of the Indian Penal Code was initiated. Deputy commissioner of police (Headquarters) Santosh Pandey said, “The complainant’s income tax account was hacked and the income statement was downloaded.”
