Kolkata: The state government on Wednesday removed superintendent of police (Howrah Rural) Sabyasachi Raman Mishra from his post for improper handling of the recent communal clash in Dhulagarh, which left several people injured.

Senior officers in the state police, requesting anonymity, claimed Mr Mishra failed to neutralise tension in the area during the clash.

The 2004-batch IPS officer of the West Bengal cadre has been transferred as superintendent of railway police, Sealdah.

When contacted, Mr Mishra however claimed in the evening, “I am not aware of this. I also do not have any comment.” Sumit Kumar, the IPS officer of 2009 batch of the West Bengal cadre, who was the deputy commissioner of police (traffic) of the Howrah city police has replaced Mr Mishra as the SP (Howrah Rural).

Debashish Bej, an IPS officer of 2004 batch, who was posted as the SRP (Sealdah) has been appointed as the new DC (traffic) of Howrah city police, the state government said in a notification issued in this regard.
