New Delhi: Taking its criticism of TMC supremo and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee a notch higher, the BJP on Wednesday called her the “Queen of corruption” and wondered why she was reacting to Income-Tax department raids in non-BJP ruled states only when such raids had taken place in BJP ruled states as well. Ms Banerjee had slammed central government after an I-T raid at Tamil Nadu chief secretary’s house.

Hitting back at Ms Banerjee, the BJP said she has charged it of political vendetta when actually she is practising it by unleashing violence on Bengali Hindus in her state because they do not agree to her party’s appeasement policy.

“She is queen of corruption. She needs to answer on Saradha, Narada and Rose Valley scams. She is trying to undermine the process of law by politicising the I-T raid. Being in the constitutional process, she should understand the law. She is not interested in fighting corruption but in shielding it,” said BJP national secretary Sidharth Nath Singh .

Advising the TMC supremo that Indian Constitution has many checks and balances to control misuseof law, the BJP advised  that Ms Banerjee should not worry.

Alleging that the TMC supremo was not interested in fighting corruption, the BJP said she was shielding it and asked her to not undermine the process of law.

Taking a dig at her, BJP national secretary and the state’s co-incharge Sidharth Nath Singh said the TMC chief seemed too “worried” and wondered if she wanted to shield her own officer as he raked up corruption cases involving TMC leaders.

Mr Singh also accused her of “misleading” the people by referring to only non-BJP ruled states where Central agencies had acted against officers, noting that a senior Rajasthan officer, where BJP is in power, was acted against by CBI as well.

Asked about her comments as to why such raids were not being carried out against BJP chief Amit Shah, Mr Singh said such a “irrelevant” question coming from the “queen of corruption” did not merit a reply.
