Kolkata: West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh has demanded a CBI or NIA probe into the two consecutive incidents of violence in the hills. He also slammed the Mamata Banerjee government for not booking Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung on the charges of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act once again.

“Mr Gurung and other GJM leaders have been booked under various anti-terror laws for the explosion during the violence. This is nothing, but political vendetta. What had happened actually will come to light only if a central agency investigates into the case,” Mr Ghosh said, on Sunday.

He added, “The reality would come out only if the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or National Investigation Agency (NIA) investighate into the case. Only then would the people believe in it because they don’t have faith either in the state government or in its police,” he said.

The Kharagpur MLA also alleged that the state government doesn’t want dialogue with the GJM leadership. He wondered whom the chief minister has appointed to initiate a dialogue with the GJM leaders.

Accusing the GJM of carrying out the grenade attack, state tourism minister Goutam Deb alleged that “The morcha is responsible for it (the explosions). They used the international border to smuggle in explosives. They may have links with external forces also.”

Meanwhile, the state Congress MP Pradip Bhattacharya demanded an all-party meeting for tackling violence in Darjeeling. “The chief minister should convene an all-party meeting on the hills. She should talk to the people of the hills to restore peace there. The central government also needs to take necessary steps in this regard.”
