Kolkata: A man was arrested by the police for allegedly abetting the suicide of his pregnant wife. Shankhadip Chatterjee, the accused, was caught on Friday night. His wife Arpita, who was five months pregnant, was found hanging from the ceiling at her in-laws’ residence in Haritaki Bagan in Manicktala late on August 17 night. She was working as a nurse at a private hospital. Her in-laws claimed to the police that she hanged herself.

But Arpita’s family complained to the police that she was driven to end her life. Her mother Shibani Bera alleged that she called up her son-in-law several times after learning about her daughter’s death but he did not attend the calls on his mobile. Later, a complaint was lodged at the Burtolla police station against Shankhadip and his two family members. A case on abetment to suicide charge was initiated by the police against them.
